Due to the innovation, anyone with a smartphone can be a news producer. This caused the journalist to lost their monopoly in information streaming (Filippoli, E., 2013). Thus, publishing online news becomes competitive among journalists and they need to know the key factors affecting the process of preparing and delivering online news.
The first key factor that affects the preparation of online news is the target audience of the news. As a news editor, you have to think who your news' target audience is. According to George, J., (2010), to identify your target audience for news, you must first know the demographic and psychographic profiles of your audience.

Demographic profiles are more in the preparation of the online news. It includes age, gender, ethnicity, educational background and the geographical aspect of the audience. A person at the age of 15 and 35 will have a different focus on news. A 15-year-old teenager might have an interest in knowing more about their Korean artist scandal or other entertainment news while a 35-year-old working adult will concern more on the political issues in the country.
A question to you, who will like to read a piece of online news that only full of texts, instead of having images, animations or videos? Thus, the tools that you use to deliver the news are also very important.
From the article on Media Helping Media (2009), it stated that a well-edited page tells the story in full by using a mix of media that informs and engages the audience. A piece of news with images provides a great way to break up the walls of text and give a visualise element of the information you are sharing (Webpagefx, n.d). Images and videos are evidence of news. Thus, by adding these two multimedia elements, this automatically tells yr reader that your news is verified and are reliable.

As a conclusion, it is not easy for a news editor to prepare and deliver the news to the audience especially when there exists the competition between citizen journalists and mainstream journalists. Thus, they have to be alert of the latest trend of the advance technology.
