In this user-generated content era, we have access to too many stories every day. The stories we read, we listen, we watch and the stories we share with each new digital mode of communication is written to attract the target audience.
According to Reid (2012), your content is your story. Thus, if you want to make your stories relevant to the online audience, first, you have to write it in the way of storytelling. it is good that writing a story which resonates in a way that strikes the emotional chord of the audience and make them understand and feel the message at a core level (Grisanti, J. 2013).
Besides, the background design also needs to be designed in a communicative way to relate to the target audience. If you are a tuition centre blog, you have to design the page more attractive and colourful. If you are a food blogger, design the webpage that will make the readers know your category once they see the blog.
Why storytelling is important? According to Kumar, P. (n.d), 90% of the audience engaging decisions are influenced by emotions. You can only relate to your audience's emotional sense with compelling photos or the multimedia elements that is visualised. People do not remember facts, they will only remember stories (Kumar, P. n.d). Thus, you need to think about what emotion you want to communicate with your audience and create your story to support the emotion.
The information in the news story has to be clear and easy to understand for the online audience. An article by Wainwright (2017), it stated that a blog is better to have short-form content. This is because it is going to have a more captive online audience interested in scrolling through dozens of information. According to Woloszyn, A (2016), it is very important to reach your target audience when you own a website and you have to make sure people on mobile devices can find and browse your site. A website layout should be also designed in mobile and tablet views so that it makes the audience easier to read on their smartphones.
If you want your website to perform well, the stories are all related to the online audience and support your business, you need to always think of your target audience first. It can help you move forward and achieve the growth and success that you are meant for.
